为了向世界各地的漫画家和他们的作品致敬,也为了漫画迷们有机会相互切磋交流,多伦多公共图书馆(Toronto Reference Library)将在本周末举办2014年漫画艺术节。和普通漫展比起来,这次的活动更“学术”些,除了参展作品之外,还可以参加专题研讨会,与特地邀请的贵宾们见面。

TCAF 2014 Kick-Off with Lynn Johnston & Kate Beaton
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is delighted to announce its official ‘Kick-off’ event for the 2014 Festival, “Lynn Johnston and Kate Beaton, In Conversation”. The event features two Canadian cartooning dynamos discussing their art and craft, and how the industry and medium have changed over the past three decades with the advent of new technologies. TCAF is also happy to official unveil our 3rd poster for 2014, by Lynn Johnston herself, at the end of this new post!
“Lynn Johnston and Kate Beaton, In Conversation” will take place Friday, May 9th, 2014, at Toronto Reference Library in The Bram and Bluma Appel Salon, 789 Yonge Street, 2nd floor. The event runs from 7:30pm-8:30pm (doors open to the public at 7:00pm), and a signing with both creators will follow. About the Authors
Lynn Johnstonis the creator of the enormously popular newspaper stripFor Better Or For Worse, which was syndicated in over 2,000 newspapers across Canada, the United States, and over 20 other countries between 1979 and 2010. Among her many accolades, she is a member of the Order of Canada, has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame, and in 2008 she was inducted into the Canadian Cartoonists Hall of Fame.She was also the first woman and first Canadian to win the American National Cartoonist Society’s Reuben Award, the organization’s highest honour.
Kate Beatonis a Canadian cartoonist who appeared in the comics scene in 2007 with her online work “Hark! A Vagrant!”. Since then, she has become a fan favorite and has gathered a significant following, with illustrations appearing in places likeThe New Yorker,Harper’sand Marvel’sStrange Talesanthology. Praised for their expression, intelligence and comic timing, her cartoons often display a wonderfully light touch on historical and literary topics. Her first strip collection,Never Learn Anything From History, has been a bestseller for Publisher Topatoco since its release in 2009, and her 2012 release, published by Drawn & Quarterly also calledHark! A Vagrant, was a New York Times Best Seller.
